Fifty years ago the non-profit organization that serves amateur sports in the area was born in Bremerton. It first took the name Bremerton Athletic Roundtable and now has expanded its service area and name to Kitsap Athletic Roundtable. The organization raises money and sponsorships through events it hosts – the annual Softball Showcase and Senior All-Star Baseball Games, almost monthly meetings with interesting guest speakers from the world of sports and the annual Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame – and donates proceeds (an average of $10,000 a year) along with a Red Brown Scholarship to youth and amateur athletics in Kitsap County, including the Hammerhead and Olympic Duals wrestling tournaments and the annual Tim Higgins Golf Tournament.
